SUMMARY:On-Line Author Talk with Jason Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:This event will be 45 minutes in length. \nJoin us in an online conversation with bestselling author Jason Reynolds as we discuss his latest work\, Coach\, the fifth–and last–entry in the highly popular Track series. Following the immersive stories of Ghost\, Lu\, Patina\, and Sunny\, it’s finally time for Coach to shine in his own book as we discover: Who was Coach before he became an inspiring leader? \nBefore Coach was the man who gave caring yet firm-handed guidance to Ghost\, Lu\, Patina\, and Sunny on the Defenders track team\, he was little Otie Brody\, who was obsessed with Mr. 9.99 (a.k.a. Carl Lewis) and Marty McFly from Back to the Future. Like Mr. 9.99—and his own dad—Otie is a sprinter. Sprint free or die is practically his motto. \nThen his dad\, who is always away on business trips\, comes home with a pair of Jordans. JORDANS. Fine as fine can be. Otie puts them on and feels like he can leap to the moon…maybe even leap like Mr. 9.99 when he won the Olympic gold medal in the long jump. But one morning he wakes up to find his brand-new secret weapon kicks are missing—right off his feet! And Otie just might have a fuzzy memory of his dad easing them off as Otie was sleeping\, but that can’t be right\, can it? \nUnless all the reasons for his dad’s “gone’s” are very different from what he’s been told… Because now\, not only are the Jordans missing\, but so is his father. \nRegister now to join in on the online conversation about the final installment to Jason Reynold’s Track series! \nAbout the Author: Jason Reynolds is an award-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author. Jason’s many books include Miles Morales: Spider Man\, the Track series (Ghost\, Patina\, Sunny\, and Lu)\, Long Way Down\, which received a Newbery Honor\, a Printz Honor\, and a Correta Scott King Honor\, and Look Both Ways\, which was a National Book Award Finalist. Recently named the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature\, Jason has appeared on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah\, Late Night with Seth Meyers\, and CBS This Morning. He is on faculty at Lesley University\, for the Writing for Young People MFA Program and lives in Washington\, DC. You can find his ramblings at JasonWritesBooks.com. \n  \n\n\n\nCOME INTO THE LIBRARY AND CHECK OUT THE BOOK!!\n\n\nThe views expressed by presenters are their own and their appearance in a program does not imply an endorsement of them or any entity they represent. SUMMARY:On-Line Author Talk with Marjan Kamili
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exciting conversation with internationally acclaimed author Marjan Kamali as we delve into the timeless wonder of her New York Times bestselling novel\, The Lion Women of Tehran. \nIn 1950s Tehran\, seven-year-old Ellie lives in grand comfort until the untimely death of her father\, forcing Ellie and her mother to move to a tiny home downtown. Lonely and bearing the brunt of her mother’s endless grievances\, Ellie dreams for a friend to alleviate her isolation. \nLuckily\, on the first day of school\, she meets Homa\, a kind girl with a brave and irrepressible spirit. Together\, the two girls play games\, learn to cook in the stone kitchen of Homa’s warm home\, wander through the colorful stalls of the Grand Bazaar\, and share their ambitions of becoming “lion women.” \nBut their happiness is disrupted when Ellie and her mother are afforded the opportunity to return to their previous bourgeois life. Now a popular student at the best girls’ high school in Iran\, Ellie’s memories of Homa begin to fade. Years later\, however\, her sudden reappearance in Ellie’s privileged world alters the course of both of their lives. \nTogether\, the two young women come of age and pursue their own goals for meaningful futures. But as the political turmoil in Iran builds to a breaking point\, one earth-shattering betrayal will have enormous consequences. \nRegister now to hear directly from the author about the crafting of her tender\, yet immensely powerful work. \nAbout the Author: \nMarjan Kamali\, born in Turkey to Iranian parents\, is the New York Times bestselling author of The Lion Women of Tehran\, The Stationery Shop\, and Together Tea. She is the 2022 recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Award. Her books have been translated into over thirty languages. Marjan lives with her family in the Boston area. \n\nCome into the Library and check out the book. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe views expressed by presenters are their own and their appearance in a program does not imply an endorsement of them or any entity they represent. SUMMARY:An Army Captain's Legacy with Nancy Lynch
DESCRIPTION:Journalist Nancy E. Lynch\, author and publisher of the award-winning social history\, Vietnam Mailbag\, Voices From the War: 1968-1972\, returns to Lima Public Library at 4 p.m. May 21 to share an extraordinary war story. \nThe return after 45 years of a charred military driver’s license of a helicopter pilot shot down in Vietnam to the daughter who never knew her father involves incredible twists and turns and\, in the end\, the honorable actions and decades-long perseverance of a Florida veteran and a South Vietnamese soldier. \nThe saga started with a war letter Lynch received in 1968. \nHer program is sponsored by the library at 1872 Genesee St.\, Lima\, NY. After her presentation\, she will be available to autograph and personalize her book at $40. A companion DVD sells for $10. \nLynch\, whose maternal grandparents lived in Canandaigua\, has presented her salute to Vietnam veterans in the Finger Lakes since 2009\, visiting the area for two weeks each May and October to increase awareness of our troops’ service and many sacrifices. She has written six other books and lives in Bethel\, Del. \nHer 456-page book features nearly 1\,000 war letters and hundreds of pictures her popular newspaper column\, Nancy’s Vietnam Mailbag\, received from our troops on the frontlines during the last five years of the contentious war while she was a reporter for The News Journal papers in Wilmington\, DE. \nHer unique column afforded our servicemen a rare opportunity to let those at home know where they stood on issues ranging from the war to the weather and is believed to be the only war correspondence column of its kind in the country. \nIn her final column in December 1972\, Lynch promised “her guys” she would someday put all their letters and pictures in a book to honor them and Vietnam veterans throughout the country. Vietnam Mailbag fulfills her pledge and in 2009 won Independent Publisher’s gold medal for Best Non-Fiction in the Mid-Atlantic.

SUMMARY:On-Line Author Talk with Matt Dinniman
DESCRIPTION:Hold onto your heart-patterned boxers! Matt Dinniman\, New York Times bestselling author of the wildly popular (and just plain wild) Dungeon Crawler Carl series\, joins us to chat about his latest book\, A Parade of Horribles. \nAs chaos and mass panic spread outside the dungeon in the wake of Faction Wars\, Carl and Donut find themselves on the tenth floor\, where they’re forced to compete in a surprisingly normal set of tasks. Well\, normal for the dungeon. \nRaces. Get from point A to point B\, and don’t come in last. After each race\, they pick an upgrade for their vehicle and the track gets more challenging. It all seems a little too normal\, a little too simple. \nIgnore those strange glitches that are occurring with increasing frequency. Don’t listen to those whispers about what’s happening on the mysterious eleventh floor\, something the system AI calls A Parade of Horribles. Nobody\, not even the showrunners\, knows what that means. Just that the AI has ominously dubbed it “a coming-out party for the ages.” \nEverything is fine\, Crawler. I repeat\, everything is fine. \nCarl hates that it’s business as usual. The rules of this floor have taken away his agency. That just will not do. \nSo Carl is planning a party of his own. It’s a plan so dangerous\, so insane\, he can’t even consult his friends lest the AI put a stop to it. Because if it goes wrong\, it’s not just the end of Carl and Donut. No. The stakes are higher than they’ve ever been. \nRegister now for a fun-filled discussion you won’t want to miss! \nAbout the Author: \nMatt Dinniman is a writer and artist from Gig Harbor\, Washington. He is the author of the New York Times bestselling Dungeon Crawler Carl series along with several other books about the end of the world. \nHe doesn’t really hate Cocker Spaniels\, and he plays bass in one band. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe views expressed by presenters are their own and their appearance in a program does not imply an endorsement of them or any entity they represent. SUMMARY:On-Line Author Talk with Ted Page
DESCRIPTION:Join us in virtual conversation with storyteller and popular blogger Ted Page as we chat about his book Good Grandpa: Stories from the Heart of Grandfatherhood. This heartfelt book highlights his journey to bring together the stories and wisdom of grandfathers from all walks of life—all with a mission to nurture the next great generation. \nWhen author Ted Page found out he was going to be a grandpa\, he did a web search to learn more about the experience in store for him\, but all he could find were references to the movie Bad Grandpa. He couldn’t help but wonder\, “Where are the good ones?” Page started a blog\, GoodGrandpa.com\, and set out to talk with grandfathers across a diverse spectrum. This included an NFL pro athlete\, a priest\, a rabbi\, an imam\, newsman Tom Brokaw\, comedy legend John Cleese\, Chinese and Indians\, physicians adapting to disability\, an air force general\, a Vietnam combat vet\, and many more—plus his Aunt Lois and the Dalai Lama\, because why not? \nAlong the way\, Page delved into family histories—his own and those of the grandpas he interviewed—to reveal fascinating stories and lessons for living a good life. In every conversation he asked grandpas for their number one most important piece of wisdom—one thing that could help our grandchildren grow to become the greatest generation of all time. Would the collective wisdom Page gathered turn out to be one singular idea\, or a constellation of north stars that illuminate a path toward a better future? A unified and unforgettable picture does in fact emerge. \nGood Grandpa is inspiring\, uplifting\, evocative\, and filled with genuine emotion. It is a recipe of hope for a divided America\, and the book that will be on every grandparent’s reading list. \nRegister today and find out why Ted Page says “our greatest generation is to come.” \nAbout the Author: \nTed Page is a storyteller and performer. He is the author of Good Grandpa: Stories from the Heart of Grandfatherhood (Regalo Press) featured on NBC’s The TODAY Show\, NPR and in Forbes Magazine. His nonfiction stories have appeared in Boston Magazine and the Boston Globe Magazine\, and his comedy screen credits include work with John Cleese and Florence Henderson. His blog for grandfathers—GoodGrandpa.com—has been featured in The New York Times. Ted’s book of true family stories\, The Willoughby Chronicles\, was published in 2017. He lives in New England and has a bunch of grandchildren. \n\n\n\n—————————————————————————————————————————–\n\nThe views expressed by presenters are their own and their appearance in a program does not imply an endorsement of them or any entity they represent.
