Library Card FAQ

How do I apply for a Library Card?

At the Circulation Desk you may apply for a new card, replace a lost one, or update your current card.  Library cards are free of charge to all Village of Lima and Town of Lima residents, or residents of Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming or Livingston Counties. You will need to fill out an application and provide valid identification, such as a driver’s license, or a piece of mail with your name and current mailing address. Children 5 years old through 12 years old are eligible for their own library cards with the signature of a parent or guardian. Teens from age 13 through age 17 can apply for their own card, but will still require parental permission for adult video and DVD privileges and unrestricted internet access.

What if my card is lost or stolen?

If your card is lost or stolen, please notify us immediately. There is a replacement charge of $1 for any card. Bring ID with name and current address to the circulation desk to get a replacement.

How often does my library card have to be renewed?

Library cards are renewed every two years. We will ask if there have been any changes. We will then update the card in the computer and you will continue to use the same library card. Your library card will only be replaced if you lose it.

I don’t have my library card with me. Can I use a photo id to check items out?

Yes, you may check-out items using a photo I.D. providing that you have a valid library card on file with the library.

Keeping track of your account

When you check out items we offer a receipt listing the items taken out and their due dates.  If you have a working email on file with us you will receive e-mail notification three days before an item is due to remind you. You are responsible for all items checked out on your library card.

You can access your account information, renew items checked out and check when they are due, through the OWWL.org  website.  The 14 digit number on the back of your card is your Patron ID and the password or PIN is usually the last 4 digits of your telephone number.  Any problems call (585)582-1311 during library hours and we can reset your PIN for you.
